2019 Walk For Winnie - 5th Anniversary

Then and Now
Then and Now

On November 7, 2017, we welcomed into the world our first child, WIlliam Rhett Janousek, at Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women and Babies. The pregnancy was textbook, and after going one week past my due date, the decision was made to induce labor. After a sudden drop in William's heartbeat, the new decision was made to undergo an emergency C-section. When the medical team got him out, WIlliam was not breathing. His heartbeat went from weak to gone. He was without oxygen for at least fifteen minutes. His APGAR score was 0...0...0...3.

Luckily, by the good graces of God and the amazing work of Winne Palmer, the doctors and nurses were able to revive William. We were told that in light of the lack of oxygen for such a length of time, William could suffer significant mental and/or physical impairments. He ultimately spent eighteen days in the NICU at Winnie Palmer. That time not only saved his life, but we are blessed to report that at the time of this writing, WIlliam is a perfectly healthy, amazingly intelligent, goofy, playful, fearless, stubborn toddler with no apparent residual effects.

What we experienced at Winnie Palmer, and specifically the NICU, was nothing short of a miracle. The truly amazing thing, however, is that the team at Winnie do this every day for so many families. We are so grateful for the joy and love we have in our lives, and we hope you will join us in raising funds to support this miracle hospital for babies.

Below is a message from Winnie Palmer. We left it in because it provides an accurate description of the hospital. Even if you choose not to contribute for whatever reason, we absolutely encourage you to visit Winnie Palmer's website and hopefully see for yourself the amazing things going on in Orlando. Thank you, and thank you again to Arnold and Winnie Palmer!

For more than 40 years, the Alexander Center for Neonatology has been a leader in the fight to save the tiniest of patients. Walk For Winnie provides all of us in the community the opportunity to join Orlando Health Winnie Palmer Hospital for Winnie & Babies in this fight.

Through Walk For Winnie, we will be able to provide funding for the care and treatment of the sickest of babies. Every day, skilled physicians and nurses at the Alexander Center for Neonatology provide the highest level of life-saving care for critically ill newborns, with one ultimate goal in mind: to help these babies thrive, to help them beat the odds. Please join me in raising funds to support the tiny miracles born in the NICU every single day!
